Set Steam to NOT update the game. Turn off Steam. Recommend making a copy of the folder as a Clean install. Redownload XWAU patches to be sure they worked. Test game via Alliance launcher NOT steam. If all that works then install TFTC. Verified files no issues detected.
I then received a warning that the game would not function without a joystick plugged in. I was then returned to Steam. I know this issue is supposed to be circumvented by the mouse-based joystick emulation built into the XWAU mod. Is there a different file or fix I need to install first before proceeding to re-install the XWAU and patch? I did this. I will make sure Steam is completely shut down before I re-install the patch and try to run it from the Alliance. I just wanted to make sure this error is normal before I re-install XWAU which, it sounds like it is.
I will report back once the Upgrade and patches are installed, with Steam shut down, and launching through the Alliance. Please keep in mind-- I have followed all of these steps before and it was not successful. I took the following steps: 1. I uninstalled XWA in Steam. I went ahead and deleted everything in the X-Wing Alliance folder, including the previously downloaded mods.
I re-installed XWA in Steam and verified the files. No errors were detected. I set Steam not to automatically update XWA. I shut down Steam using the 'Exit Steam' option in the tray, not just the 'x' in the app itself. I re-downloaded the XWAU and ran the installation. Without adjusting any settings in Babu Frik, I launched the game via the Alliance. This time, it did successfully launch!
I re-downloaded the Update 4. This time, again without making any changes in the BF Configurator, I tried to launch the game from the Alliance.
So the issue appears to be something to do with the patch. The exception code 0xc is a memory access violation. I'd really prefer not to do this, however, as I suspect this will end up causing more headaches for other programs, games, etc. Any other thoughts? I then launched via Alliance. I ran a quick flight simulator mission and it launched successfully complete with shiny new graphics and models, hooray!
However, I could not steer my craft, as I had not configured it for mouse emulation and, again, I do not own a joystick. This seams to solve the issue for everyone who had that type of error so far.
As we cannot reproduce the error on our end there's no way to debug and fix it further. I was given the following error message, "Data Execution Prevention: This program must be run with data execution protection DEP enabled. You cannot turn off DEP for this program. No idea what else it could be. Operating system, RAM, Video card, that sort of thing.
There are a few things you can try. Check the last post in this thread, it contains more information regarding the DEP: viewtopic. Have you tried running the GoG version of this game? If anyone knows anything though? Ghost View Profile View Posts. I may have found a fix to this problem most folks are having on Windows I bought the game on Steam, downloaded the Darksaber Ultimate Craft Pack the latest version and basically patched it with the official 2.
After that I noticed that I kept getting an error every single time I ran xwingalliance. The error message read "Failed to detect X-wing Alliance CD 0xc" and knew there was a solution as this never happened before. Find Legacy Components or something to that effect, enable everything in the subcategories and restart your machine. And voila! X-Wing Alliance works like a charm!
I forgot about this thread. I'm running Win7 and recently the game stopped working. I think it was right after the update. I tried looking for anything like the Win10 fix but nothing remotely called 'legacy' that I could find. Any other advice? Sorry, i Should have added When I try to launch the game from either the desktop shortcut or from Steam, the steam mini-window pops up for a split-second, then disappears without doing anything.
I've disabled all Anti-virus programs, firewalls XWA on Windows 10 64 bit. If you need help installing though, please post to ask for assistance. New updated instructions will be made available, but not yet. And my Gravis xTerminator joystick still worked as it did before! Let this self-extracting archive extract to that folder eg. There should be four new files in your temporary XWA folder: Alliance.
Burn the contents of your temporary XWA folder! Obligatory: Install the official X-Wing Alliance v2. There might be copy protection or stuff like that. Last edited by Griffin on Sat Apr 25, pm, edited 1 time in total. Is this procedure still vaild as described in this post? I followed the procedure, but when launching the game it is asking for the original CD, that is actually inside the drive.
Since I have not a empty CD to burn, I have performed the installation directly from the. Also you might need the 64 Bit patches. You probably don't even need the ISO. Just extract it to a folder.
I just installed it recently but I used the Steam one and not my old CD copies. Italian version. Where I can find this 64 bit patch?
